Night. Light.

It’s the Eve of our final push from Washington state to Michigan. We’re 2,100 miles from our old home in Lynden, Washington, and only 265 miles from home in Muskegon.

If traffic is good, it’s just another 4-½ hours till I see my babies again… wahoo!

But, first, a nap and maybe some jacuzzi time.

Glow Worm.

Here’s another image rescued from my virtual trash heap of overlooked and passed over images from the past.

You never really notice how dirty the surface of a lightbulb can get—until you shine a light on it!

Midnight Oil.

Under this lamp, in the sometimes moist basement of my home in Lynden, Washington, is where I work when I’m not in the office.

“When I was a beggarly boy,
And lived in a cellar damp,
I had not a friend nor a toy,
But I had Aladdin’s lamp.”

—James Russell Lowell, Aladdin, 1868.

A Light in the Woods.

I’m generally not a fan of chain coffee shops, but I make an exception for The Woods, which is a great Pacific Northwest alternative to Starbucks. The chairs are always comfy, the baristas alway cheerful, and the java always smooth. I’m especially impressed by their having cold brew coffee on tap.

Owing to its PNW setting, I also like its rustic decor, like these handmade light sconces in honor of Mt. Baker.

Portal of Comfort.

Through this portal you enter the New Land of Perpetual Distraction, where you’ll find all manner of chaos and craziness from tickles and giggles to tirades and tantrums, from cozy cuddles to wounded wailings—sometimes the kids get in on the action, too!

But no matter what’s going on in our humble home, it’s always engaging, immersive, and comforting.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way in!

A Corner on Light.

I was playing around with the Cortex Camera app after church last Sunday and tried shooting the overhead lights. It’s a little hard to compose when you can’t see the screen, but a little experimentation led to a couple nice results.
